The following nouns and adjectives best describe the personality of Rich Kiamco, his performance, his writings, and the reactions of the audience. I feel proud to be a Pinoy right after the performance of Mr. Rich Kiamco.

The only flaw that I have observed was there was no tension in his hands when he was holding the imaginary bat. I did not feel that he was holding it. Maybe, it is because he really has not hold a bat yet (hehe!). Sometimes, he is lost, in portraying the mother or the father.

Unaccessorized. The performance ended and still I can not define the word yet. In my own understanding, the word literally means that one is not wearing accessories such as earrings, necklace, bracelet and the like. The performance was very simple. Mr. Kiamco wore no jewelries and had no other props aside from the three chairs. He had not even changed his costume. The presentation was very resourceful. It was very awesome.

{February 28, 2007}   ‘Antigong Agong’

{January 22, 2007}   Abstract Performance

Frankly speaking, I did not understand the film that was shown to us. The music is not good to hear. It caused headache. The was very bright.

The first part showed what can be observed in that museum (I forgot the name). It listed down what will be presented in each level of the museum. What I know is it is a performance; and for me it is not beautiful because I really don’t know what it was all about.

There are two kinds of performance: performance art and art perfomance. Art performance is grounded in visual arts or fine arts. While, Performance art is grounded in theater. Basically, the film viewed is a performance art.

ground level: girls taking a bath… It shows a routine of taking a bath.

1st level: girls dancing… dancing is a performance art.

2nd level: gig… There were men and women dancing and jumping arouynd, and singing out loud and shrieking. Here, we can identify and observed the character of a dionysian(birth of tragedy); intolerance, intoxication.

3rd level: girl… There was a girl with no legs. Through the advancement of technology, she was able to walk with the aid of the glass shoes. A twist happened in this level. The girl transformed into a tiger. That made this level to be a melodrama because there was a conflict.

4th level: ivory… A structure made of ivory was found in this level. I could not definitely describe its form. It was an example of art performance.

5th level: wax…A melancholec and freak man was heating wax and putting it on one side of the area (really freaky!)

As a whole, the performance is tragic (haha). For me, it is a tragedy. There was an order of the levels which shows the character of Apollonian. A man was taking the lead in the film. He climed from one level to another and interacted in each level. There was intoxication that really made me feel intoxicated that as the twist started in each level I could no longer understand what it means (Dionysian!). Well, what else I can say? It is an abstract performance.

{January 22, 2007}   6 Elements of Tragedy

1. Plot

It is the most important among the six. It is considered as the life and soul. It has three parts: peripeties, discoveries and suffering. Plot is the representation of the action in the play.

Tuhog: Rape Case

Antigong Agong: Bud Dahu Battle

2. Character

It gives qualities to the action. It provides the moral purpose of the agents. There are 4 points to aim in a character:

1. Should be good.

4. The character should be consistent.

Tuhog: lead role: anak… 1. check 2. check 3. check 4. check

{January 22, 2007}   Art: Copy, Imitation, Replica

As you have observed from the illustration there are three available output. One is the idea from the mind of the director. Second is the interpretation of the writer of the idea of the director. Third, is the movie itself.    Movie is a work of art. according to Plato, ‘art is third times away from the truth’. Therefore, it is not reliable. My example was from the movie shown in the class. It is entitled ‘Tuhog.’ It was my first time to see the movie and it helped me understand the concept of Plato.(I first heard the movie back when I was in high school and the first thing that comes in my mind is it is all about pornography.) Taking up the course COMA 110 let me appreciate the film.

Basically, my example happened to be what is in the movie. However, if we are with the people behind the scenes working with the film we will be able to track the origin of the idea. Anyway, I just limited this writing to what I have seen in the movie.

It was clearly showed and agrees with the idea of Plato. From the movie, the director contacted a writer to write a rape story. The writer came to the mother and child who were victims of rape. They told their story to the writer and let it be published to the public. However, the movie was different from what have happened in the real life story of the mother and child.

(The movie is very cheerful, gay and funny. I have the same comments with my classmates. The movie is not dragging and not a usual or typical film. Well, setting aside the sexual disturbances, one can not anticipate what is next. We are all shouting and giggling inside the AVR because the ending became horrific and literally horror.hahaha)

The idea of Plato is just a like a rumor or gossips. The sentence from the first person is different from the last one. In other words, if the news is, “Juan is crippled.” In the end of the chain, he will be dead. hihihi!

Anyway, it is really true that art is away or three times away from the truth but the essence is not lost and it was according to Aristotle.

{January 18, 2007}   ‘Life is Beautiful’

I turned on the PC and clicked the Mozilla Firefox. Google.com appeared on the screen. I typed the letters that composes the word BEAUTIFUL. Different pictures uploaded by net surfers was on the screen. Thoroughly, I screened the photographs if they are really beautiful basing from my standards. Not so satisfied, I then enter the word LIFE. (Life is my answer to the question what is beautiful in the first meeting of the class.) I saw many pics, some fit my taste, others don’t.
Life is beautiful. Curios I am, I also looked for pics with the title Life is Beautiful. I tried to figure out if there are other people that agrees with my definition of beauty.
Here is a photograph from the net. I chose the picture because it is considered beautiful by the uploader and I agree with him/her. The picture is also entitled Life is Beautiful.
For me, the picturesque scene is awesome and beautiful. It was taken by a living being. It is a captured moment of the mother and child under the heat of the sun beside the wide sea.
Life is beautiful because it lets us see and experience the two sides of a thing: beauty and ugliness. Recognize the colors of the picture. The color present are neutral colors: black and white. Black and white represents the two faces of life: darkness and light.
The life that I am referring to is the life of the human beings. Having life we are able to see, hear, feel, touch and smell all the things that surround us. We experience every emotions because of life. Thus, we can identify beauty because of life and there are no more beautiful other than life.
That is a very general meaning of life and beauty. However, men have different understanding and definition of beauty. It is embedded by the culture and traditions of the human beings. There is no universal rule in terms of beauty. Therefore, beauty is relative.
Just an overview with the concept of Plato. A photograph is imitation of reality. I do not agree with such idea. It is a copy or a replica of a certain event, thing, or place but it is still original. Originality comes with the medium used and the purpose of the output.

{January 18, 2007}   Art is Essential

Plato said that art is three times remove from the truth. The idea was opposed by Aristotle. He said that it is true that art is three times remove from the truth but the essence is not lost.

Aristotle is trying to point out that the very reason why a certain thing is made is not lost. A distinct example is the movie “Tuhog.” It is on the third level of imitation but the idea or the story that the girl was raped by her grandfather is still present. There are some modifications made and some of the scenes are sensationalized and enhanced. Taking a part of the movie, let us talk about the artist who took the main roles in the movie. (Since, it is a movie inside a movie, to make it easier and not so complictaed I will just take note of what happened in the movie.) Ina’s role was played by Klaudia Koronel in the movie. Of course, they have different personalities, ways, figures, experiences and many more. But what Klaudia is portraying in the movie is the experience or the personality of Ina.

More and more, the director want to make it a bold film that is why it appeared to be pornographic. The movie came up to be very different from what have happened in the real life but the main idea is not lost.
