{January 22, 2007}   Abstract Performance

Frankly speaking, I did not understand the film that was shown to us. The music is not good to hear. It caused headache. The was very bright.

The first part showed what can be observed in that museum (I forgot the name). It listed down what will be presented in each level of the museum. What I know is it is a performance; and for me it is not beautiful because I really don’t know what it was all about.

There are two kinds of performance: performance art and art perfomance. Art performance is grounded in visual arts or fine arts. While, Performance art is grounded in theater. Basically, the film viewed is a performance art.

ground level: girls taking a bath… It shows a routine of taking a bath.

1st level: girls dancing… dancing is a performance art.

2nd level: gig… There were men and women dancing and jumping arouynd, and singing out loud and shrieking. Here, we can identify and observed the character of a dionysian(birth of tragedy); intolerance, intoxication.

3rd level: girl… There was a girl with no legs. Through the advancement of technology, she was able to walk with the aid of the glass shoes. A twist happened in this level. The girl transformed into a tiger. That made this level to be a melodrama because there was a conflict.

4th level: ivory… A structure made of ivory was found in this level. I could not definitely describe its form. It was an example of art performance.

5th level: wax…A melancholec and freak man was heating wax and putting it on one side of the area (really freaky!)

As a whole, the performance is tragic (haha). For me, it is a tragedy. There was an order of the levels which shows the character of Apollonian. A man was taking the lead in the film. He climed from one level to another and interacted in each level. There was intoxication that really made me feel intoxicated that as the twist started in each level I could no longer understand what it means (Dionysian!). Well, what else I can say? It is an abstract performance.
